Benanti Description
Color: Pale, ruby
Scent: Ethereal, spicy, with scents of red fruit
Taste and Body: Dry, medium-to-full bodied, distinctively tannic, balanced and persistent
Grapes are hand-picked during the 4th week of October, de stemmed and softly pressed. Fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature in stainless steel vats, with a 21 days long maceration, using a specific indigenous yeast selected in the vineyard by Benanti. The maturation then continues in used tonneaux of French oak for about 12 months and then in stainless steel tanks.
Aging: In tonneaux of French oak (used) for 12 months and then in stainless steel tanks. Followed by 10 months in the bottle.
Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points
A restrained nose of new books, new leather and sharpened pencils turns raw and tannic with cherries and steak jus, and wild strawberries, pomegranate seeds and brick paving reinforce this on the palate. With tightly coiled, clingy tannins and acid firing straight down the middle there's time to spare here.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
This expressive red leads with an overtone of tar-tinged mineral and sage, a fragrant thread winding through flavors of baked raspberry and currant fruit, with hints of red licorice and spiced orange peel. Dense tannins pull the flavor profile close toward the firm, minerally finish.
