Albert Boxler Description
All grapes are harvested by hand and no fining. 80 ha. After pressing, cold settling before fermentation begins and fermentation is is all natural. Vinified in foudre. Boxler’s other Sommerberg bottlings, including Eckberg, come from pure granite in his home village of Niedermorschwihr. This portion of Sommerberg is technically part of the village of neighboring Katzenthal, where granite meets limestone. The Dudenstein bottling, produced only in great years, represents the pinnacle of Boxler’s wine-growing prowess and without any doubt is one of Alsace’s—and the world’s—finest Rieslings. Age it patiently and respectfully, as you would a fine Corton-Charlemagne or Chevalier-Montrachet from Burgundy. - Dixon Brooke
Wine Advocate: 96 Points
The 2019 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Dudenstein has an intense lemon color and opens with a deep, intense and granitic, highly complex bouquet of perfectly ripe and lush lemon fruits with iodine notes. On the palate, this is an elegant, rather classic, very salty, crystalline and terroir-driven Riesling that is compact and still edgy but also rich and shows a very long, intense and powerful, endlessly saline finish. This is another long-distance runner that will benefit from further bottle age. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022.
